Abstract

Many children of indigenous nationalities live in bilingual environments. Their mother tongue, usually Kichwa, is the predominant language, even though they hear and sometimes speak Spanish in school and other settings. However, when learning to read and write, they begin to show some transfers from Kichwa to Spanish. It is important to understand what they are and why they happen, so as to encourage more effective learning of Spanish through an appropriate attitude.
