Lunchtime at the CIBV: from the scale to emotional listening
Abstract
The eradication of hunger and chronic malnutrition is on the global public policy agenda. In the case of Ecuador, the indices are high and respond to socio-demographic logics, since their greatest incidence is in rural, poor and indigenous populations. The Children's Centres for Good Living (CIBV) seek to improve the nutrition of children between one and three years of age and thus to have an impact on their living conditions. Four meals are distributed to the children in these spaces. Care and learning revolve much around mealtimes. Feeding in these centres often takes place in a context of tension. For this reason, it is essential to develop strategies based on listening to the particular needs of each child. It is not only a matter of feeding them well or providing them with their caloric needs, feeding must be thought of as a process in which their physiological needs come into play, but also social and emotional needs.
